On Saturday, January 23 we invited all of our Resource Staff applicants to Morningside-High Park Presbyterian Church for our Hiring Day. We started at 10am with some warm-up games, then moved into some initiatives, team building and thought-provoking activities.
It thrills me to have such an amazing group of people ready to put their all into camp this summer; based on what I saw on Saturday, we are going to have a stellar Resource team for 2010.
One of my favourite parts of this hiring day was a discussion we had about what Camp Culture is. This group had some amazing insight into exactly what it is that makes Cairn stand out as a place that is serious about providing a holistic camp experience. From the 4S’s to music to faith and to fun, this crew already has an impressive handle how to deliver progamming and experiences that will positively impact our campers.
So, thanks to our Resource applicants for coming out on Saturday and giving your all.
Before we left at 4pm on Saturday, we played a quick game called, 1, 2, 3 Ugly! The premise is this: I hold the camera up in front of a group of people. I then say, “1, 2, 3, _______”! and I fill in the blank with a really great word. For instance, I might say, “1, 2, 3, popcorn popping”, and then you, as the group being photographed, have to immediately pretend that you are, indeed, a kernel of popcorn popping.
We got a nice group shot of everyone (above), then we did a whole group 1, 2, 3 Ugly. Here are our results to, “1, 2, 3, Lifeguard Chair”. Hope you enjoy!

Looks like it was a blast! Did anyone try 1, 2, 3, Ninja? You’d need a very fast camera, though…ninjas are good at disappearing
I really enjoy Suji’s creepy dinosaur infused lifeguard chair (bottom right).
