On Monday, October 19th, Cairn makes its annual report to Synod. We have been invited to lead worship for this gathering of Commissioners from Churches across the Synod, and we are so pleased to be able to share the success stories of Camp! Staff – if you can join us for worship that day, we would love to have you!
Iona Programme (Baysville)

Iona is Wilderness Camping!

Iona is an overnight, wilderness camping programme! You’ll get a chance to sleep in tent platforms (on comfy mattresses), and to prepare and cook your own food with the help of your counsellors. Iona is special because of its wilderness focus – you will spend almost all your time outside, playing great games, trying out new activities, and learning lots of skills for wilderness living.
Iona has no flush toilets or electricity, but you will use clean, environmentally-friendly kybos, make lots of music, have Bible study every morning, and spend lots of time swimming, canoeing, using the low ropes course and building shelters and forts in the forest. Iona is a really special place, and a very new experience.
Try something different this summer – try Iona!
Any questions about the Iona programme? Feel free to contact the camp office, or ask us right here in the comments!

How is Iona Going to Work?

I want to thank an Iona parent for taking the time to write us an email with some questions in the first year of CAIRN about how the Iona programme will work on the Baysville site.
He wrote:
I am trying to find out about Camp Iona Sessions. When are they and what is being offered? Is there somewhere that will give me a list of just Iona programs, because I am having trouble identifying what I would consider any Iona program based on the information presented. Is there ONLY one white water canoe trip? Are there any 6 day canoe trips?
Do you have any information on how you are running the new Iona. What are its programs, philosophy, organization, new physical set up and how things are to work, and so on.
Thank you for that.
We have put up some information on the website with a more complete look at a day at Iona and the programmes available. There is a description for parents and a separate description for campers of what the onsite programmes will be.
- I am trying to find out about Camp Iona Sessions. When are they and what is being offered? Is there somewhere that will give me a list of just Iona programs, because I am having
trouble identifying what I would consider any Iona program based on the information presented. Here is a complete list of the Iona & Glen Mhor programmes available. - Is there ONLY one white water canoe trip? There is only one trip of this magnatude this summer. It is going to be a ten day trip with challenging class II & III rapids. Our other Senior Canoe Trips will be more lake-based but challenging. They will be in remote areas (like northern Algonquin or Temagami) and will require campers to develop their skills in paddling, campcrafts and portaging. Intermediate trips will be introductions to outtripping skills and will be based out of the Frost Centre (Haliburton Water Trails) or the “main street” of Algonquin. There will also be Iona Hiking Trips this summer.
- Are there any 6 day canoe trips? The six day trips are listed in the Summer Schedule.
- Do you have any information on how you are running the new Iona? What are its programs, philosophy, organization, new physical set up and how things are to work, and so on. I hope those pages on the website will explain things better. If anyone has more questions you can post a comment after this blog entry or email us at info@ilovecamp.org
