July 4 – 10, 2010

This camp is an incredible opportunity for young women aged 15 & 16 to come together and empower themselves and each other. We all know that women can do anything, so come and prove it to yourself by gaining new skills, engaging in meaningful discussion and reflection, having fun, playing hard, building strong friendships and showing the world what great female leaders can do.

This won’t just be a week of sitting around, we’re going to empower these young women with hard skills, time to reflect, initiatives, debriefing, facilitation tools, leadership strategies and chances to exercise their creativity. The week will allow for discussions about what it means to be a woman in today’s society and technological age and provide encouragement for ways that young women can enable themselves to make positive changes in the world. There will be singing, there will be laughing, there will be playing and cheering and learning and growing. Most of all, there will be an opportunity for lots of young women to come together and share in a truly unique week together.

For those campers who have attended Girls’ Camp in the past, Young Women’s Leadership Camp is the perfect extension. Young women will find that moving from Girls’ Camp into YWLC camp a natural and logical option. Of course, this week isn’t just for old Girls’ Campers, any young woman can join in and find a welcome place amongst new friends.

The Pay It Forward camp session will offer campers aged 15 and older the opportunity to earn up to 30 hours of their Community Involvement Activities for high school graduation. Campers will pay a minimal fee to cover their room and board and will be set up with volunteer activities on a daily basis. These volunteer activities will be supervised by our trained camp staff. Each volunteer activity will be chosen so that it offers a maximum amount of benefit to our camp community, as well as providing our Pay It Forward campers with life-long lessons, skill development and a sense of self-worth and achievement.

Volunteer activities might include: painting cabins, creative projects (like designing and painting a mural), extending our camp community to help at the local library, helping to develop a camp fundraiser, working on new environmental initiatives, helping to plan and run a worship service, or acting as an assistant to staff with camp activities, games and events.

Spaces are limited, so register soon!

Glen Mhor has TLC (Bible study) each morning, a camp-wide game every night, and lots of special traditions every week. Glen Mhor is an exciting, creative and friendly place – where costumes, canoes and funny characters often make appearances at mealtime announcements!. We can’t wait to see you this summer!

Have you been to Glen Mhor in the past? What are your favourite memories? Let us know in the comments!

Dining Hall/ Main Lodge

Our lodge is the central meeting area of the Outdoor Centre. Most of the action will take place at centre camp, around the Lodge. The building also houses the offices of our Directors and all senior staff members, along with staff laundry facilities. All meals are eaten in our Dining Hall, along with evening campfires during the spring (due to insects in the spring). It is our most popular building due to its picturesque view of Echo Lake, and its appealing stone fireplace.

Sleeping Accommodations – Cabins at the Outdoor Centre

While at camp, participants will sleep in one of our 12 cabins on our site. Our Cabins are located on both sides of our site - boys side and girls side! Each cabin can accommodate up to 10 people comfortably on bunk beds with ample storage. Accompanying teachers and parent supervisors may reside in any one of these cabins located within close proximity to the group memberʼs cabins or in the camper cabins with their group. All cabins are within a 5 minute walk to the Lodge complex (Dining Hall and Washrooms) and are a short walk to the waterfront and other areas on site.

Washroom Facilities

There is a main washroom complex for both males and females which include shower facilities located at our main lodge. The complex is located in the main lodge building not far from any cabin. There are also Kyboʼs (outhouses) provided in close proximity to all cabins.

Health Centre
We have a fully equipped Health Centre located directly beside our main lodge. It is available for all first aid needs. In addition to the Health Centre, all programme areas have access to fully stocked first aid kits, and each staff member carries a first aid with them on hand at all time. A local doctor by the name of Dr. Rae and the Huntsville Hospital (approximately a 25 minute drive from camp) are on call and available in case of a more serious incident or injury.

Should our participants require medication, please note that student meds can be safely stored at The Glen Mhor Site in either the Health Centre or in our locked medication bin. Please note that it is not the responsibility of the Glen Mhor Staff to dispense medication.

Fox Den

The Fox Den is our main craft facility where all of our campers creative ideas come alive! The Fox Den is used both in our spring and summer programming.

Thicket

Cairn’s administration and main office is located within the Thicket. It is also the where the Directors of Cairn at Baysville live for the season.

Haven Village

The Haven Village is our Staff Accommodation area. It houses one main building and three smaller bunkies, plus our staff washhouse.
