10 Year Paddles

One of the things that we think is very important at Cairn is re-establishing ties with our alumni, whether you’re from Glen Mhor, Iona, Dorothy Lake or Presbyterian Music Camp.

One of our favourite projects over the last number of years has been 10 Year Paddles. Every person who has been involved at CAIRN for 10 or more summers is eligible for a 10 Year Paddle (a small plaque, shaped like a paddle, with your name & camp name that hangs in the dining hall). 10 summers (or years) can include your time involved at camp as camper, staff member or even Camp Committee member.

If you would like a 10 year paddle please email Match ( match@ilovecamp.org ) and we will have one made up for you.  If you will be at camp for our Work Weekend weekend from May 14-16, 2010 OR our Alumni Weekend from September 10 – 12, 2010, we would love to present it to you in front of your camp crew. If you won’t be there, but will be at camp in the summer, let us know and we can show you where your paddle is hung.

I was looking through the pictures that the Presbyterian Record has posted of the once-every-three-years Canada Youth conference at Brock U. this week and I was happy to find these great pictures of The Twizz acting in one of the dramas.

CAIRN Volunteers

Binx and Indigo (Hard at Work)It is through the gracious efforts of our volunteers that we are able to keep costs so low for our campers.  Each season, we are blessed with the efforts of an extraordinary number of people!

Brad “Peche” Cross is our Volunteer Coordinator, and he is gracious enough to organize work crews for us at our Work Weekends.  Brad is a new father (congratulations!), and we are so thrilled for his family.

If you’d like to Volunteer for us at camp, please contact the camp office or find Adam or Brad on Facebook.  We’re always glad to have more helping hands!

We would like to extend a huge “Thank You” to the Men’s Group and the Sr. Youth Group of Knox Waterloo Presbyterian Church!  These groups help us annually at our Spring Work Weekend, and many of the projects at camp simply couldn’t have happened without them.  The Sr. High Youth Group put in our docks (a thoroughly chilling job in May) and then borrow camp’s canoes to do a 24-hour trip in the Leslie Frost Centre.  The Men’s Group uses the Work Weekend as a time of bonding, and enjoy the sunshine, fresh air and hard work that comes with camp projects.

If your group would like to participate in one of our Work Weekends, please let Rebecca know: palais@ilovecamp.org.  We’re happy to host, feed and do some programming in exchange for your care and labour.

If you would like to get involved at Cairn, whether as a member of the Camp Board, as a maintenance or construction volunteer or as a special guest to work with our campers, please contact Chantal Jackson or Rebecca Jess.

Volunteer of the Year Award

Each year, we would like to recognize the efforts of one extraordinary volunteer. This is the person who has exemplified the meaning of servanthood.  Please check back at the end of our season to see the photo and description of this year’s invaluable friend of Cairn.

If you know of someone who should be nominated for the Cairn Volunteer of the Year please email us: info@ilovecamp.org

Alumni Connections

staff_campfireCairn offers many ways for our alumni (campers & staff) to stay connected to Camp and to keep in touch with old friends.

Facebook

If you have a Facebook account (which is free), come and join one of the Cairn Groups.

The Official CAIRN Page [click here]

Cairn [click here]

CAIRN (Glen Mhor and Iona) Alumni [click here]

They are easy to find: just use the search box and type “Cairn”.

CAIRN Volunteers

Another great way to keep in touch with your staff friends is to become one of the Cairn Volunteers – you can check out this group on Facebook, too.  [Click here] to find us.

Flickr

To see and share photos from camp, visit the Cairn Flickr Group. We have thousands of camp pictures already, and you can add your memories for others to enjoy. You will need a Flickr account (free).

The Staff Alumni Email Group

If you have ever been on staff and would like to become part of the Staff Alumni email group please email Taps.

At this point, we use it to keep our alumni informed of interesting things in the life of camp, but it can also be used to reconnect with other camp folks and to keep us informed of what is going on in your life (babies, weddings, get togethers, etc).
