Away at the Lake

Welcome to Away at the Lake, an all-inclusive summer retreat brought to you by the Cairn Family of Camps for the summer of 2021!

Throughout July and August, couples, families, groups, and individuals will be able to enjoy a summer Muskoka getaway on the shores of Echo Lake.

As well as overnight accommodations and full meal service, Away at the Lake offers guests the opportunity to set their own pace for their stay. Guests will be able to choose from a variety of self-run and facilitated programs, hiking trails, and enjoy the open waterfront all day long. 

Away at the Lake retreats are available as 4-day 3-night sessions that run Thursday-Sunday or Monday-Thursday throughout July and August. Arrival is any time after 7pm, and departure is at 10:30am.

Program Information

The following schedule provides an overview of what a day at Away at the Lake could look like. Choose from a variety of staff-led or self run programs, ranging from high ropes, archery and guided nature walks, to time boating and swimming at the lake, to playing lawn games, slacklining or just enjoying a good book.

All guest groups will complete a Program Request form prior to their arrival on which they will indicate which programs they want scheduled during their stay.

Away at the Lake registration costs listed below are a per-person rate, and include all meals, programs, accommodations, and amenities for your three-night stay. Away at the Lake runs Thursday-Sunday and Monday-Thursday throughout July and August.

Please know that when registering, guests will be prompted to select an accommodation type and "option" (Adult age 13+, Child age 5-12, or Infant age 4 and under) for each person in your group. Your registration will not be complete without selecting both accommodation type and option.

Adult: $345 Child $300, maximum occupancy: 8 people
These rustic cabins have twin-sized bunk beds lining the walls, and open floorspace in the middle, with electricity and overhead lights. Bathrooms are located at the main Lodge. A classic Cairn experience!

Adult $210 Child $165, maximum occupancy: 6 people
Campsites provide a clearing among the trees for guests to enjoy the peaceful, natural beauty of Muskoka's forests. Portapotties are a short walk away, and bathrooms are available at the main Lodge. Bring your tent and enjoy this camping stay!

Adult $330 Child $285, maximum occupancy: 2 people
Yurts provide a unique camping option: a canvas-walled, platform-floored structure with a queen-sized bed. While typically associated with Cairn's Iona site, the Yurts will be relocated to Glen Mhor, close to the Glen Mhor Tree, for Away at the Lake this summer! Please note that yurts do not have electricity. Portapotties are a short walk away, and bathrooms are available at the main Lodge. Your "glamping" retreat is calling!

Adult $435 Child $390, maximum occupancy: 4 people
Offering a full private bathroom and electricity, the Lookout provides additional amenities for your retreat. Located right at the centre of site, the Lookout sleeps up to 4 guests in a queen bed and a twin-sized bunk bed, providing a private space with easy access to all activities.

Hilltop Hideaway
Adult $495, Child $450, maximum occupancy: 10 people
Those familiar with Cairn may know this space as the Health Centre. Hilltop Hideaway offers a full private bathroom, electricity, and three bedrooms. Two of the bedrooms sleep 4 guests each in a double bed and a twin-sized bunk bed, and the third bedroom contains a twin-sized bunk bed. Please note that the Hilltop Hideaway is available for July only.

Financial Assistance

Budgeting and planning financially for a whole-family holiday during COVID may sound daunting. Please know that the Cairn Campership Fund and other bursary programs are available to help cover the registration costs. They are here to be used - all groups are encouraged to apply if this would be helpful to you. Cairn Refund and Cancellation Policy

I understand that all registrations must be accompanied by full payment or a $100.00 deposit, with full payment due no later than 1 week before the start of my booking.

All changes to bookings (dates, number of participants) may be done at no cost, subject to availability, up to two weeks prior to the beginning of the booking. Cancellations made up to two weeks before the beginning of the booking will result in a full refund less the $100.00 deposit (administrative fee). Cancellations made within two week of the booking, unless accompanied by a medical certificate, will not result in a refund of any amount. Refunds will not be issued in instances where a participant is removed from the program at the choice or request of the participant or participant’s parent(s)/guardian(s), or is asked to leave for a breach of conditions of enrollment or contravention of Cairn guidelines. 

Should you or someone in your household develop COVID-19 symptoms during your stay you will be required to leave the site and follow public health directives. In this case, a pro-rated refund will be provided to the participant/household that is required to leave.

Refunds will not be issued for poor weather.

The Cairn Family of Camps reserves the right to cancel programs at any point due to inadequate registration or any reason that prohibits the safe running of programs.
